Joe Pettitt

BIOGRAPHY

Joe took up guitar at the age of nine and after a few years began playing bass guitar. In 1999 he began his studies at Trinity College of Music and soon started concentrating his efforts on his new-found love – the double-bass. He graduated in 2003 after winning the Henley Festival Prize for Jazz and the Archer Big Band Scholarship. Whilst at college, he studied with Geoff Gascoyne, Simon Wolf, Alec Dankworth, Paul Morgan and Corin Long.

Playing such diverse venues as London's Jazz Café, The Dover Street Wine Bar and Pizza on the Park, to The Royal Albert Hall, London Palledium and The Royal Festival Hall, Joe is an experienced professional freelance musician. He has also made performances across Europe and Asia.

Big band work includes John Wilson Orchestra; Ted Heath Orchestra; Ronnie Scott's Big Band; Syd Lawrence Orchestra; Jay Craig Orchestra; National Youth Jazz Orchestra; Len Phillips Big Band; James O’Carroll Big Band; Trinity Big Band.

Pop work includes Girls Aloud, Kevin Richardson (Backstreet Boys), Cliff Richard and Darius.

Work with jazz artists includes Anton Browne; Dave Cliff; Claire Martin; Elaine Delmar; Don Rendell; Joe Stilgoe; Peter King; and Joan Viskant.

Orchestral work dates include Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra; South Bank Symphony Orchestra; Sinfonia Tamesa and Trinity College of Music Symphony Orchestra.

Cabaret work includes Ronnie Corbett; Brian Conley; Bobby Davro; Jeff Hooper; Richard Stilgoe; Gary Williams; Matthew Ford and Matt Monro Jnr.

Session/film credits include Michael Ball (Past & Present); Phantom of the Opera 2 – Love Never Dies (cast album); Penelope (film soundtrack).

West End show credits include Carousel; High Society; Fiddler on the Rood (deputy); Les Miserables (deputy); Chicago (deputy); Anything Goes (deputy); Menopause the Musical (deputy).

Other projects are 10 piece funk band Payback and contemporary jazz quartet Barcode.

Joe's influences include Dave Holland, Charlie Haden and of course, the great Ray Brown.
